It appears this release will have system file changes that could impact Media Composer performance, unlike the previous fall update that revised features. At this point the release should be "optional" rather than force fed. If you manually engage Windows Update for the prime interest of security patches and Defender definations, be alert for the optional download and install of the Windows revision update, and avoid clicking on it.

Thanks very much for this important info, TVJohn.
Today my workstation completed the force-feeding of 1909. After reading your post, I set my Avanced Update setting (the one beneath the "pause" options, to the maximum of 365 days, as I am trying to use MC v2018.12 for the foreseeable (?) future.
Do you suggest I try to "roll back" to what I had two days ago? If so, do you know where the setting to do that is found?
I got a lot to learn about the OS upgrade policies for individual licensees.
I think my AVG may have been simply over-riding my Win 10 Pro settings... possibly including that upcoming 365-day block-all I just added.
anyway, thanks for the heads up. this new update is coming in July, according to MicroSoft support. Does that sound right?

No. If they're still on schedule that should be 20H2.
I'm going to update to 20h1 and give it a go. But I'm also going to do a full system backup before hand, just in case.

Dave, same here, I do not have serious production commitments, so a little ledge walking adds some spice.
Windows Feature Update 2004 released today via Windows update.
Hi
Has anyone completed the May 2020 Windows update yet ?
And is it compatible with MC 2020.5?
Is it recommended?

If your system is not affected by it, it is available as a download. If it is, as in my case with the ZBook (something about the internal sound card) then it clearly states it is not available yet and will be when it's sorted. I should imagine it is fine, if it is available and would not be advisable, if it is not, to circumvent Windows recommendation to seek it out manually. Avid seem no longer to issue update advisories, so we're a bit on our own here.
Hi, on my Dell G3 3590 laptop, MC 2019.12, windows 10 update seems to make Media Compser crush whenever activating full screen playback.

Hi Pat,
I'm running 20H2 and crashing on exit. DX Nitris Driver I think.
Adobe stopped working on previous builds which was my reason for updating....joy.
Hello, I am running MediaComposer 2021-5 on a HP Z840 Workstation with Intel Xeon 2667 and 128 GB Memory. Today after an automated Windows Update to 20H1, I couldn't operate my AVID any longer. It gets "Out of Memory" when I open it. Windows Indexing is switched to manual. Any thoughts?
Thank you
Hi Sefan,
I was booting with 20H1, but very slow start up.
I gather my problem is Dx Nitris related. Crashed system on each MC shutdown.
Be careful doing a windows rollback. I followed instruction but it killed my OS totally...Harry

Same here - infact it's been the most stable Windows so far but then that's been the case for a while. 20H2 was fine too. There was an optional update for 21H1 that apparently messed with the taskbar but I avoid optional updates. I used to use the full poweres of Pro to delay updates but I don't bother with that now.
