Is it even possible? The same MP4 file, the same Project. MXF media created by the original legacy import is now offline. But a copy of the exact same MP4 file now in a different folder, d/ifferent drive. Both the offline sequence and the Linked clip are highlighted in the same Bin. Is there a particular Relink Setting needed? Anybody ever succeed with this? Or is it a lost cause? Thanks in advance for any tips!

Thanks for pitching in, Alayne. You're right, batch re-importing does work-- I just re-familiarized myself with it.
But I'm still interested if people know for sure that the Link-to concept is or is not an option. It has to do with a need to get an offline sequence fully online very speedily.
The original Batch Capture and Batch Import were shinning examples of the brilliant minds behind media management and offline online workflows Avid were renown for. A great shame those designing AMA / Link did not understand this and design Linking to be at least as capable plus use meta data etc so the two input processes became seamlessly and reliably interchangeable.
I only us imported media with MC for direct online projects. For Linked media offline online Projects I use Resolve to create MXF proxies at the start and then round-trip the online cut without media back to Resolve to create the online media. For me this is quicker and more reliable any relinking and transcoding process I can find by staying in MC. Sad!

on the other stuff, I wish things were like the old days but ya gotta admit MC can still swing.
I'm sure your Resolve flow is great. Used to be AE. But I can't learn new software as quickly.

Hi usatraveler, I tried it but no dice.
But thanks to your timecode match reminder, I think I found the problem: the Imported MP4 TimeCode started at 01:00:00:00 which I did not consider (duh) until I set bin display to reveal the reference clip involved in the offline Sequence. Now I see that my LINK of the same MP4 began TC at midnight. That had to be it... will check tomorrow. Good one, USA. Thanks so much. Now I'll have to learn if I can set the Starting TC of non-timecoded Linked clips to match whatever I encounter. groovy.

I found I could just paste in the alternate TC in Aux1 on my Linked Clips (even when in Media Tool!) and using Target set to TC Aux1 along with Tape Name or Source File Name, it worked (on a 1-source-in-Sequence test) when I matched the Linked Clip TC to the Legacy Import TC. In testing, it did not work to Relink the sequence when I added an intentionally different TC in Aux TC1. This is good. I can get all Linked Clips ready in advance of receiving an off-site Sequence which may have incorported legacy imported clips instead of initially Linking them. I can even have Drop Frame versions ready in Aux TC2, etc.
* I need to also learn what I can do if and when the off-site clips got Transcoded-- because as an offline/online editor, I have sometimes received an MC warning message at point of Transcode that Relinking will suffer somehow. (I don't recall the exact message, but I'm sure you've seen it. It never seemed that important to me) But now, I want to have a ready way to get my Linked files (one way or another) to replace any offline versions of those transcoded clips, as well. i'll take any advice, please.
I'm also wondering if there are any Relink gotchas you know about.The sources may be any variety of HD, including stock footage files in any framerate. etc.

Ignore extension ignores file extension. Maybe only active if linking by filename..? Usefull if you imported a .mp4 file but now want to relink to a transcoded .mxf version of the same clip.
Ignore Characters After ignores the last part of the name. Could be you have Clip1.mov on the timeline and want to relink to Clip1_graded.mxf. Then type _graded into Target -> "Ignore Characters" box.
