Dear Avid,
Please allow an option for us longtime users to bring back into our workflow the center box of buttons at the bottom of the Composer wndow where by default the Overwrite and Insert functions used to be. 23 year of muscle memory sorely miss these buttons. Would you pretty please????
Please.
28 Year muscle memory here.
+1 ! Why they were removed is a mystery to me - now I have them remapped, different location from necessity, but of course need to think/look before selecting. I cannot think of a good reason why they were removed.

Folks.......
Sorry. This won’t come back.
You could try to re-map the buttons to the right of the Source side and left of the Record side, but we won’t be bringing back the centered 6.

That's a real shame, especially when it appears that removing them gained so little in the grand scheme of things. But it's good to know Avid is commited to removing more of its most baseline functionality buttons from the user interface. May I suggest removing the Play button too? I mean, everyone is using the spacebar on their keyboards or they can map that button elsewhere...

Thanks for the clarity, Marianna. Why were they removed? There must be a good reason, but it is a step down not to have them where they've been since...forever.

I don't know but I'd guess the popout mini command palette didn't fit in with the new docked panels idea.
If under composer setting you enable the two rows of composer buttons there are quite a few options for reloacted buttons.

Agreed, Pat....there are lots of ways to get those buttons in your center vision by using the many spots on the composer buttons list.
I have these buttons grouped by function like remove effect, fade effect, effect editor all together.
it works for me and is more flexible than the old interface by far.
Folks.... randy gave me the intel on not bringing the buttons back and when he comes up for air later this week - will explain to me why and then I will post.
Hey Marianna,
Any more info on this?
First - I have never really used the center buttons (if I am even thinking of what folks are talking about correctly). But what I have done is make a bin of used effects which I keep open almost all the time. Drag and drop where / when needed.
It might be better than nothing if nothing is what will be the future.

Two words... keyboard mapping.
Think of the time you could have saved over those 23+ years by hitting a single keystroke vs using the mouse. Your wrist would likely thank you too.

The fact that the small Tool Palette was in the centre was a good thing, as it could accessed from either the source or record side - good for popping up the grid or quad split. It also held some useful buttons like Fade Effect ... did I mention Fade Effect? It won't work on a classic title tool title in 2019.6. Pass the smelling salts, darling.
