    Replace / Relink Footage

    Hello,

This question was probably asked before, but I could not find the right answer.

The media I work with is made in DaVinci Resolve. They rendered a LUT on the video files and exported them as DNxHD36. Those video files are synchronized in Avid.

Now I asked to send me the same footage, but without the LUT, so that I can edit with another (less dark) LUT. But now the media is offline.

I replaced the old .mxf files in the Avid MediaFiles folder and hoped this would work, but it doesn't. Relinking does not work either.

What is the correct way to do this?

    Kind regards,

    Pieter

If you have them both online in the project do thy hold the same metadata? importantly timecode start, end, duration, frame rate.

Maybe your original had a different tape/tape id vs the new one? That can throw it off too.

    Hi Dan,

    I see one possible problem:

    The original has under Tape: msmMMOB.98 ; msmMMOB.19 ; ...
The new files don't have any info under Tape.

Is that something that should be fixed in Resolve?

    Re: Replace / Relink Footage

You can change that in Avid but beware that its a permanent 'hard' change so it might be worth having anther copy on hand prior to amending the tape.

You could try a softer approach and add some metadata for TapeId (for example) to the original and the clips and relink based on that within the relink dialog.

In an ideal world the same metadata should've been added in Resolve first to aid the relink but then i suppose they probably didn't consider that a further output was going to be necessary.
