I'm wondering when AVID will implement GPU to debayer RED footage, transcoding footage it is super slow, it should be much faster. I see it uses only 7% of the GPU power. Im on Windows 10 latest build with a storage that provides me sustained 1000MBs vias a 10 GigE card and 48 discs. So the RAID is much faster that it needs. In fact Im trascoding now and I can see that the AVID is writting at only 70 MBs to the RAID.. This looks like a waste of resources.
The machine it is an HP Z840 with dual XEON Procs and 128 GB of RAM, Nvidia driver 416.34 Gforce Titan Black with 6 GB of RAM and 2880 CUDA cores. Premiere with RED footage does it all in real time, transcoding is several times faster too thanks to the GPU. AVID transcoding takes like 40 minutes to trasncode a 40 minutes RED video. This is too slow.
It is using only 40 % of the processors and 7% of the GPU, this is really slow. If you use the GPU to playback RED files, I presume, why you cant use it for transcoding? With Premiere I can use 4K full debayer RED , not just half, in realtime with this hardware, and several layers of realtime DVE and RED as the source.
Well, I hope next version of MC have better support for RED GPU debayering.
Thanks
I'm pretty sure ive seen near 100% core usage across 14 cores when transcoding red.
don't have any of them with me though to test.
