I have two audio tracks, and when I put the same clip on the two tracks, one track shows the waveform the other one does not. If I create a new track and copy or move the audio clip, the new track will also NOT show the waveform. I have Audio Date>Waveform CHECKED, so I'm completely lost as to why the waveform on track 6 does NOT show up.
Thanks for your help!
Please forgive me for asking, but... is there any chance that it's an empty track? Did You try to solo play?
peace luca
The two clips are the same clip, same section, identical copies. If I were to drag the one with no waveform to the track below, miraculously the waveform appears.
Could be time to rebuild your Avid user?
-- Kevin
It could be the time to trash the waveform cache, or to rebuild the project settings, if the former doesn't work try the latter.
Thanks for the input. How would I go about rebuilding user settings, trashing the waveform cache?
Thanks again!
The Waveform Cache folder can be found within your Avid project folder. If you're using shared storage each system has it's own cache. You should be able to delete the folder and it will rebuild automatically.
As for the Avid User, you can create a new user from the Settings tab by clicking the hamburger menu and selecting "Create User Profile." This will create a user with default settings. If you want to completely rebuild from scratch, you adjust your settings from here.
Or, you can copy some of your previous settings over to this new user. In the Settings tab, select File > Open Settings File and navigate to your old user (usually found in /Users/Shared/Avid Media Composer/Avid Users). A window pops up and you can drag settings from your old user to the settings window to replace or add to settings.
NOTE: Don't copy over potentially problematic settings, or else the issues may migrate to your new user. In your case, I'd probably avoid any Timeline settings or Timeline Views since those could be the issue in displaying waveforms. It's best to rebuild those yourself rather than copy.
What Kevin said, and if You want to rebuild the project settings, AKA Larry Rubin's usual suspects, just trash the *.xml *.avp and *.avs files from the project folder, they will be recreated at startup.
Nice response Kevin!!!!!!!!

Really? Trash the .avp file?
That IS the project - trash that and there's nothing for Avid to open. Yes?
Neil.
Thanks everyone yea. It looks like it corrected the waveforms when I deleted the .xml and .avs. I did delete the .avp too, but notice my project VANISHED from the project list, so I just undeleted the .avp and everything was fine.

You are correct, as the OP discovered. A better choice might be to create a new project then copy the bins over there.
That being said, the project file is actually the least valuable thing for Media Composer. If you have all the bins, you can re-create a project at any time and keep going.

My bad, I went by memory and slipped on a banana skin, my apologies. I second the new project anyway, same settings and very same name (case sensitive!) of the old one.
