    issues with relinking older files

I'm working in a newer project set up in HD 1080 but need to access older files that were set up as dailies in an older project.  this older project was set up on a different version of media composer from a different computer, and the files are probably not in the same format.  When I try to re-link the files, which are offline, I check all the boxes so that it might accept a wide range of material and options, but once I submit, the computer doesn't even seem to think about it, it directly tells me that it can't do it.

In other versions of media composer (i'm working off the newest one, rented month to month), it would ask where to find the media if it couldn't automatically connect.  I don't see that option here beyond what drive to select.

    Can anyone help?

    thank you!

You could try making a new bin in your current project and the Link to the original media files (wherever they are on your current computer) of the missing media.

When this media has Linked to the new bin and, IF you are lucky, your original Linked media will  magically now be online.

Are you using the “Ama relink command” or the relink to meadiafiles command?

Re: issues with relinking older files

There are a couple of quirks about relink that can be counter-intuitive and really mess you up.

First make sure you select “All drives” as I’ve found pointing the to drive can actually interfere with the relink. You’d think otherwise. Make sure you choose ANY VIDEO FORMAT as being too specific can also cause it to get flustered. I’ve never found “Load media database” and waiting for that to scan to be at all helpful. The MC pretty much knows what it has to play with at all times so the forced scan may seem helpful but can actually prove to be an excessive time waster. If none of that helps, only then is it time to start messing with things like matching file name options, etc. That ’s the last prayer option because usually the MC sorts it out with the earlier steps. You may also want to try “import media’ navigate to your media folder and choose the msmMMOB.mdb file which can force import all the master clips into a bin. Sometimes once the MC sees the media there it may ripple though other sequences and sub-clips.
