    MXF OP1a Closed GOP

    Hi All,

Can someone please explain how to export this type of OP1a out of MC?

    XDCAM HD422 @ 1080i 50Mb/s 12 frame Long GOP Format settings, GOP: M=3 N=12 GOP: Closed

I can find any place to edit these settings on the default XDCAM op1a export setting.

    Cheers

    Bob

You can't edit these settings because they are set to this per default.

Just export as XDCAM MXF OP1a from the standard export dialog. Your project must be 1080i of course.

If you open the resulting file in MediaInfo you will see that everything is fine :)

    Re: MXF OP1a Closed GOP

I've had some  XDCAM mxf delivery files which were made from Media Composer 8.6.3, have been rejected from the client as they are not Closed GOP.

I had the export option “Re-encode for XDCAM bitstream compliance” checked.

    My report says:

GOP Status: Closed Open [1  Errors; Reason: 'GOP Status' is not Closed]

    GOP structure: {GOP(s): [(1-3, 7, 0.0 %), (1-3, 10, 0.0 %), (3, 12, 99.9 %)], Average GOP Length: 12}

Everything else in the report was correct.

If I can't alter the export settings, how do I make Closed GOP XDCAM mxfs?

    Re: MXF OP1a Closed GOP

I also have a customer complaining about the GOP STATUS, and I've tried to export it from MC 2018.12.1, using different settings.

No luck, MediaInfo reports Open GOP for all the files exported.

Whatever the customer has :) [view my complete system specs]

    Re: MXF OP1a Closed GOP

An OP1a MXF out of Avid does not encode the file with Closed GOP.

The only way to do it is use a third party encoder. The cheapest option is unfortuntunaly Adobe Media Encoder. It has Advanced MXF options - I click the 'Force Closed GOP' setting and encode.

My method is to create a video mixdown of master seq. to either ProRes or DNx. Make timeline with just mixdown and master audio, then export same as source into a .mov container. Then load into Media Encoder.

The sooner mastering interlaced dies a quick death the better. IMHO.
