FW capturing is just a plain transmission of bytes from the tape to Avid/mxf , you need to have the Avid setup configured exacly as the properties of the tape media, no conversion at all is done when you are fw capturing.

Jay, you should probably transcode the media to something with 48K audio before using it in a 1080i/p project.

I am able to open the footage in an HD project but I'm not sure if there will be issues once I'm done editing. I have not tried to transcode any media before. Is there a tutorial or some help I could get and how to do it?
RIght-click on a clip and choose Conslidate/Transcode. In the dialog, click on Transcode. If you're doing this in a 1080 project, the video settings will be for DNxHD 145. You need to manually select the audio settings. Change the sample rate from 32K to 48K 16-bit. You can select multiple clips and transcode all at once. Note that this takes some time per clip.
A better solution is capture into a DV project and transcode just the audio. That's a lot faster and you can drop the SD clips into your HD project, where they'll get a FrameFlex put on them to scale to HD. You can also just change the project format from 30i to 1080i and it'll do the same thing.
Also, just to note, I can use native DV with 24-bit 32K audio in a 1080i project without issues. No playback or editing problems that I've noticed. So this may all be moot anyways.
For best upscaling results, hopefully you have Boris or could use a trial license for this project only:
1. Capture using firewire , you will get the same DV codec as on the tape
2. Still in SD mode, add all that media to a single Sequense and do a transcode to 1:1 ( that is uncompressed SD ) and 48 khz audio
3. Now export a QT ref out from this Sequense.
4. Switch project to HD and Import that qt ref, do not link , to DNxHD with settings " do not resize "
5. Use BCC Uprez to upscale it to HD and render it out, you might want to do a Video Mixdown after rendering to lock the media, easier this way to continue to work with it.
add.. and if you don´t have Boris use about the same workflow but link the QT ref and use FrameFlex to upscale it, then render it out and lock it with a Mixdown ... end add ..
Just copy the bin into your 1080 project and act like it's a normal bin.
