Hi all,
Hopefully somebody will have an answer for this. I recutting a older project and everything was fine. Then all fo teh sudden I starte to get this error. Now I can't play anything back. I had finished cutting and was just doing some final tweaks to the color when this happen. No real specific reason. Any help would be much appreciated. I have been trying to figure this out for hours but it's late and my brain is mush.
Macpro Late 2013 Yosemite
64 GB ram
Avid media composer 8.8 with synphony
Its got to be plug in related.... the older project and now the newer MC application which uses newer plug ins
What was the project done it - i.e. format?
Restarting the app sometimes helps too especially if your memory usage has spiked.
Make sure you are using the latest and greatest plug in's

Hi Marrianna,
It was done in 1080 23.976 fps. Tried shutting down the computer and that didn't work. At one point I did get rid of some plugins and instal the plugins from nablet. My footgae is from a FS7 and a A7S. The A7S footage was transcoded to Prores. Majority of the footage is 1080 with a few shots 4K. I'm thinking a full reinstal of avid is in my day today?
Now I am also getting the error.
Exception: Cannot create the AMA sample mapper to play this clip - SelectFileMob() failed.

Do a test for me.... turn off audio and see if the project plays the video without a problem...

Hi Marianna,
Tried that, even deleted teh audio tracks and when that didn't work I deleted all teh video tracks and just tried playing audio and still had teh same issue. In teh end Imay have found the culprit. It seems to be 2 stand ups I shot. One with my FS7 and one with my A7s which were both 4K. They were working before OK but somehow these must gotten corrupt. NOt sure what cause this though
Good work on the audio / video track trick... sorry it didnt fix. Glad you found the 2 clips and it is always hard to say how they got corrupt but if you csan replace them you shoukd be good to go
Try consolidating your footage (I believe Avid now natively supports XAVC-i). Barring that get rid of your AMA metadata folder and re-link the footage and see if that fixes the issue. See this thread
I think Avid needs to put out a white paper on managing the AMA database folder. It potentially impacts so many things on Avid yet we know nothing about the impact of cleaning it, deleting it etc. I only know from an observational standpoint it makes Avid run better and the links usually re-establish just by re-linking the media (with some exceptions like audio files and alpha channelled graphics where you have to get a little trickier)

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.

Try the consolidating trick or transcoding in the case of the A7s. I guess you have a backup of the original media? If the footage did get corrupt most likely culprit is a failing hard drive and I would check that ASAP.
Just happened to look back on this. Good call. My Raid died last week. Thankf ully I had most of it backed up and I was able to recover it.
I have the same error. I worked this morning with the project and it was working great. I turned off the computer and now turned it on again and I can't play it. I can't think of any plug in or corrupt file since the computer was off since I last worked with Avid. I'm not sure what to do.
I also get this other message:
"Exception: Cannot create the AMA sample mapper to play this clip"
I'd appreciate any help. I am working with AMA clips linked to the original files (H264, from a Canon 7D)
Project and footage: 1080p, RGB, 29.97fps.
Thank you!
Martin
Hi Martin
I 'd check that the original file on the disk is still Ok - play it using a third party player (VLC is good). If the media file itself is corrupt you'll need to restore it from a backup. If it checks out, try copying the file to a new drive, hiding the original from Avid and re-linking it.
If the 7D presents files in a structure that sometimes links separate media files in to a single file (XDCAM for example will string multiple 2G files together) that can also cause this error.
Unfortunately AMA is very problematic and not very user friendly so when errors do pop up it can come from multiple causes. Sometimes once an error does pop up you cannot get rid of it without jumping through multiple hoops.
