Hi,
I'm working with EDL Manager in MC 7.0.4 and doing a test workflow that is not working.
I make a test edit using AMA linked media.
I then open EDL Manager and make an EDL from the sequence.
I then send the EDL to a new bin and I get an offline version of the original sequence and an offline version of the ama clip.
I can't figure out any way to relink the clip in the new bin so that the edl-created seuqence will be online.
Someone suggested selecting the AMA clip in bin 1 and the offline clip in bin 2 and then using relink 'Selected items in all open bins', but that option is greyed out.
How would one go about getting that EDL back online? Thanks!
Actually,
Even when I import a clip into Media Composer to DNxHD and do a test edit and then export and re-import the EDL, it still won't relink. I have no idea what's going on. I don't have much experience with EDL manager. I have used the List Tool in the past, but must use MC 7.0.4 for an upcoming job, so therefore must use EDL Manager. Any help would be super appreciated. Thanks.
Here is my workflow:
1. Import clip to DNxHD 120 and do test edit.
2. Load sequence into record monitor, open edl maanger and get sequence
3. Save out EDL to desktop
4. Open EDL in EDL Mananger - when asked frame rate, I enter frame rate of sequence - 25fps
5. Click send sequence and choose format of the project 1080p/25 - I don't map source audio tracks
6. I send to a newly created bin. The sequence created by the EDL is offline. The clip created by import of the EDL is listed as 1:1 Pal in the video column, when it should be DNxHD 120 (HD1080p) I can't relink either the clip or sequence.
Why are you using EDLs?
I can't see nay point.
I don;t think EDLs can contain the required metadata to allow MC to AMA link

You didn't say WHY you are doing this; what you want to achieve.
It sounds like you just want to Consolidate your clips...?
I successfully did a simlar thing for a specific purpose by Decomposing a copy of the Sequence then Relinking.
EDLs only carry Reel (Tape) Names and Timecodes, so unless you assign Tape Names to your AMA Links, the EDL process will not work.
(*Corrected in Job's next post. My apologies. EDLs carry less information than AAFs etc, so there are limitations. Check your EDL has the correct information and then check you're trying to use the right information during the Relink process.)
Neil.
No, that is incorrect. As long as the REEL ID from the EDL is same or close (extension), then Media Composer allow you to relink to selected between any two columns – be it Tape to Source File or any other.
Thanks, guys. Just saw this now. For some reason, I didn't get notifications of your responses.
Pat, to address your question... Productions always ask for EDLs. I'm not 100% sure why AAFs aren't acceptable for everyone, but it's just the reality that certain departments insist on having EDLs as well.
I'll look into using Job's method. That information may not have been there.
