Hi everyone,
I've been experiencing a weird issue while importing Audio in Media Composer 8.5.2.
Something that didn't happen in 8.4.5.
When we get audio mix from our sound studio, we import it and put it on our online sequence and output our master.
In this case we have these audio clip specs :
AUDIO TC is 29.97 drop frame, starts at 00;59;58;00 and ends at 01;22;24;00. Duration is 22;26;00
In 8.4.5, imported in 29.97 drop frame, those specs stays. Everything's fine.
In 8.5.2, imported in 29.97 drop frame, it says that it starts at 00;59;57;29 and ends at 01;22;23;29. Duration is 22;26;00.
So we were wondering if the TC is sliding off 1 frame or something.
When comparing the 2 imports on a timeline, we found out it was Avid creating 1 frame at the start and remove one at the end. When we place the two imports at the exact same TC, it is sync. So the TC isn't sliding.
In our case, we can adjust the clip on our timeline before the ultimate output or import the clips on another computer with MC 8.4 but we wish we could avoid that..
Anyone else have had that issue? Does Avid know about it? We hope this gets fixed soon.
Thanks !
I am having the exact same problem with 8.5.3.
Our audio post house placed a frame of tone at 59:58:00 and exported about 12 minutes of content with that tone as the first frame. When imported on a Nitris with 8.5.3, Avid added a full frame at the very head. Therefore, the frame of tone was moved a frame later and the timecode for the start of the clip was backed up to 59:57:29. Of course, this throws everything on the layback off by a frame.
I imported the same broadcast wave on a Nitris running 8.2.2 and the timecode of the broadcast wave was properly imported and no additional frame was inserted at the head. The first frame was the single frame of tone.
Has this problem been addressed by Avid?
Are you using traditional Import? If so, go to Import Setting / Audio tab. Do you have Subframe Alignment to Broadcast Wave Start Time checked? If so, uncheck and try again. If not, check it and try again. Any difference?
Also, what system is making the files for you?
There are settings in some DAWs that can affect how a BWave is made relative to TC.

Grapevine says: "In previous cases where this has happened, open the file in Sound Devices’ Wave Agent and renter the timecode and timecode type again and save it. Then try again. This has fixed it in the past."
Yes, traditional import command structure. I did try the subframe thing and it didn't seem to have an effect.
The files are coming from Nuendo. Fine with 8.2.2, not so fine with 8.5.3.
We use Nuendo here as well. There are some settings in there that can effect how Bwaves show up. Not a mixer, so I do not know exactly what they are. Just know we experimented with a few.
Will try and remember to ask our senior mixer what they were.
I'm curious to know if the same problems are seen when you Link the files...?
And curious to know, are you importing the SAME files into 8.5.3 that you imported into 8.2.2? That is, we can rule out the idea that there was a change (i.e. Update) to Nuendo?
Neil.
