I was just upgrading to 8.6. But now after uninstall and reinstall FX 6.4 I see AVID FX in the Effect palette again.

Did the Avid FX 6.4 crashing get resolved in MC 8.6? Avid FX would not open in MC 8.5. Are you saying it now works in 8.6 on a Mac? Thanks.

No, it is still not working. AvidFX still can't open interface and make crash.. with MC together... With new MacOS Media Composer 8.6.1 version it's the same.

Both Windows versions MC 8.6.0 and 8.6.1 work good with AvidFX.

For me it is stupid workflow: to create fx (blend mode - for example) in PC side, then save to bin, then share with Mac, and then ... you can apply fx but can't fine-tune it on Mac... so you have to create another version fx on PC... and so on... and so...

But... what I have to do without PC???

I can see if we can try and reproduced this but in most instances... it is the install order and / or a bad install that cuases the issue.  How did you do the MC 8.5.x install and did the OS change at all and did you install Avid FX AFTER?

For last 17 years I always remove everything before upgrade. And I install AMC first then the rest...

I tried AvidFX version: 6.4.0.277 (downloaded from My Avid account AvidFX64_Mac_80563.dmg) and 6.4.0.513 (looks newer - downloaded year or two ago from BorisFX site - file AvidFXa.dmg) without success.

They work good as standalone app in OSX but in AvidMC, since version 8.5.1 till newest 8.6.1, AvidFX simply close interface with error The application Avid Media Composer has quit unexpectedly - Send to Avid.

What is interesting sometimes (2 or 3 times for dozens Launch User Interface clicks) AvidFX interface stays open, allows me edit the fx but I do not know the reason why. It is too randomly. Downgrade to 8.5.0 is always a cure but I don't want to stay with this version.

In my job - facility with over a dozen Media Composers 8.6.0 on MacPro (late 2013) with OSX 10.10.5 - we have same problem because we share and use huge library AvidFX presets. Now we can't customise them.

So I'm desperately looking for help

I hear you.....  Just wanted to make sure the install was right as a few peeps have had this and a reinstall in th right order seemed to work.  

Let me work on this one tomrorow.... get a case going and assign to a tech that knows this stuff well.

I'm having the same crash when launching the AvidFX interface. Using the AvidFX64 Mac 80563 installer.

Where I work, we have upgraded MC twice while continuing to use AvidFX 6.4 and had issues both times ( all suites, all users) but eventually got AvidFX to run hassle-free.

What i found was common was that, if any User opened an existing Project and either tried to open an existing AvidFX filter or just park  the Timeline on an unrenered AvidFX instance, MC would crash.

The workaround was to open the existing project, apply an AvidFX filter to a segment with no other filters, go to effects Editor and Launch the Interface, do nothing in AvidFX, Apply it, then delete the filter.

Once AvidFX had been opened this way, once, it seemed the relationship between AvidFX and the upgraded MC was established and AvidFX would run as usual, on either new or existing instances.

It would be interesting to see if those still having issues can define whether the issues are with existing effects or new effects or both.

Thanks for that bit of info. Very interesting. I was trying to open existing AvidFX in older timelines. I never tried a new filter. I have since downgraded back to 8.4.1 where it now works again. The next time I upgrade, I will try your suggestion. Thanks for posting it.

For me (AMC 8.6.0 and 8.6.1) parking on unrendered AvidFX filter is not the problem and I can apply and use any existing AvidFX preset from bin to segment or transition.

But, as I wrote, I can't open the AvidFX interface to customize existing and new applied filters. 99/100 it makes a crash.

Are there any news that upcoming MC 8.6.3 MacOS version will bring back AvidFX as a plugin?

I checked and I can confirm: in new MC 8.6.3 version for macOS AvidFX still doesn't work as a plugin
