Mac Pro (Late 2013), El Capitan (10.11.4) and using Avid MBox Pro...
My Mac Pro would not shut down. Had to do a hard shut down every time until I found some helpful information online:

Apparently El Capitan deos not like the Avid CoreAudio.plugin file located in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/. In order to get a proper shutdown, you have to remove the plugin file from the folder. The only problem with that, is that NOW you are unable to play any audio out of the MBox Pro.
I now do the workaround and press cmd + spacebar, open activity monitor, and stop the "WindowServer" proccess. It will take you to your computer's login menu, from there go to "shutdown".
Can anyone from Avid say when this will be fixed or if it is being looked into?
Tim
Don't know if it is related but 10.11.4 is not supported yet. Only 10.11.3.
