Z800 and new Invidia FX5800 installed, beep 6 times, no power up

I have Z800 workstation that had invidia 4000 in it. I was recently experiencing shutdowns(beeps 6 times and screen goes off) anytime I try to do a render or do a video mixdown. So I just bought invidia FX5800 and tried to replace it, but now the computer would not power up. When you press the power bottom it beeps 6 times and nothing happens.

So my question is, is there anything I should do before installing this new card (FX5800), is my power supply not adequate for this new card or is the card(new) one defective? I need pointers?

    Thanks

Six beeps is definately GFX-related for the z800.

If it was behaving this way with the old card and does the same with the new card, I'd guess the card is not the issue.  Do you have the auxiliary power connected to the graphics card?  if so, I think this might be an issue with the power supply.

Or there may be an issue with the motherboard itself.

Thanks for the reply, there is a 6 pin and also 8 pin on the card, but not sure if both needs to be plugged in. My FX 4000 had only a 6 pin(brown, black and yellow - the actual pins are only 5 because the yellow is paired together)

I need someone with z800 and fx5800 to verify the power wires including the wire colors that is required to be connected to the fx 5800

    Thanks

There are a couple of different board layouts for the FX5800, depending on the card model and manufacturer. You need to go to the manuacturer website (not NVidia) and get their installation manual. If you have the SDI version of the FX5800 then it probably needs two auxillary power connectors.

The connectors are all pretty standard, so you don't need to worry about wire colors. The 6-pin connector with 2 yellows is normal.

My Z800 used to have a Quadro 4000 card and an GFX780 card. teh 4000 card needed the additional 6 pin connector and the 780 card an additional 6 pin plus anoth 4 pin I think. We had to make up and pslice in cables to make it work.

I'd assume all connections on the card need a connector in them.

I had the same problem. If you have an option to replace power supply - try it. It helps in my Z800.
