Upgrading 6.5 to new license plan?

Ok.  So I have Media Composer 6.5, which was actually an upgrade from 5.0.  I was able to register my product today and I understand I must purchase this new license plan for $299.  My concern is that my MC was purchased well before May 2014 and is rather old.  Does this new license plan benefit me?  And what does it do?

Does it allow me to PAY for an upgrade my media compser? Or does it actually GIVE ME THE UPDATE too?

I have to do this soon and purchase this in the next few hours, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Yes, you get the upgrade, and any other upgrades that come out for the next year.

Wow.  This seems like quite a deal then.  I can upgrade from 6.5 to 8.3 right away for only $299?

However I understand this means I must now pay $299 EVERY year inorder to maintain my license, correct?

When I purchase the license is i just a matter of going to a download page an upgrading?

    Thanks for the help.

Re: Upgrading 6.5 to new license plan?

Therehave been reports of some delays while the database is being updated, but they're working their hearts out to make it right.

As long as you can show you made the purchase in time you shouldn't have any problem.  If you need 8.3 immediately there's always the fully functioning 30 day demo mode  -- but it won't take 30 days (took about 24 hrs for me.)

Be aware that there are some less exciting changes regarding 3rd party software.  What you have should mostly work but the upgrades really aren't upgrades.

It's assumed $299 will continue to be the annual price.  Still, if you don't don't purchase the new license now (no need to actually install) it will cost you $1299 start a new license later.

I am now in the "On Hold" pattern, but I assume when that goes through I should be able to upgrade, right? This makes sense.  I bought the $299 license.  I don't need the upgrade now, but I certainly would like to get it in the future.

Speakig of which, can I upgrade to a different version?  Say if I want version 7 instead of 8? Or is it only the latest version?

    Thanks again.

Yes, you're good. Just wait for Avid to process the System ID validation (one business day normally).

A license that is upgraded to v8.x also lets you launch 7.0.4 and 6.5.4.

Ok.  So I upgraded and go the license on 12/31.  Of course, I now seem to be in the "On Hold" mess.  My account has said "on hold" for two days now.

Is there a number I should call about this?  I get lost in the various 800 numbers for AVID SUPPORT. Also I am on the West Coast.  It seems everytime I call they say they are closed.

The wierd thing is that it has my corrects system ID in the pull down menu.  Not sure why I am still "On Hold."

    Anyone?

Holidays followed by the weekend perhaps?

From Marianna: " your subscription ( yearly support/upgrade plan or month to month subscription plan) is "on hold" in order for Avid to validate the registration and ownership of your System ID.

Your system ID will be confirmed within 1 business day.

I am aware of the one business day.

However, if I purchased it on Weds 12/31. And it is now end of day Friday January 2nd, isn't that more than one business day?  Or was Janurary 2nd considered a holiday now? And I should wait until January 5th?

How long until I consider this an issue?

I do not know your countries holidays but here New Years day and the day after are public holidays so I would have expected to wait until the 5th.

Considering that MANY people waited until 12/31/2014 to purchase their upgrades, chances are they are swamped with requests.  give it some time, and as suggested previously, you can use a 30day trial license to get by until the "On Hold" status is cleared.

Ok. So my account is still "On Hold" as of 1/12/15.  What number do I call or who do I contact to solve this issue?

    Thank you.
