Boris Continuum Complete:When considring toolset pricing, think about the cost of your own time. How much will a tool save you on project time/cost. Sometimes a free or a cheap tool is not the most economical solution for your business.
.- That's not our point and never has been.
And you know it.
THAT'S my point:
Why the AVX version of BCC is double the price (or more) of the equvalent AE, OFX, etc versions of BCC?
Out of the entire universe of Avid's third party plugins manufacturers, only BORISFX and Genarts have this very unfair pricing scheeme.
Everyone else have the same price for all the hosts.
So I repeat my question
Do you think AVID users are way richer than Premiere, Fusion, Vegas or AE users?
Do we all Avid users work exclusively at Hollywood bigshot Studios? Do we only make Primetime?
Is AVX so complex you need DOUBLE (or more) the engineering/ the time/ the research to make it work?
If so, How come everyone else, except Genarts and you, apparently don't?
Does the AVID/AVX version come with double the features or plugins than the other host's equivalent versions?
please, do tell
P.S. At least I can concede you than Genarts price policy is WAY un-fairer than yours.
Sapphire's one year subscription for AE/OFX is $499, for AVX is more than $3K!!!

...and a related question: Is MC 8.3 so drastic of a change that BCC 8 is no longer supported and we need to pony up $$$ for BCC 9 to continue to work with MC 8.3? I'd gladly pay a few bucks for a patch (which is all it probably needs) for BCC 8 to be supported with MC 8.3, but the "UPGRADE" price Boris is askng to go from BCC 8 to BCC 9 doesn't seem justified. Are we all missing somthing?
I have a fantastic editing assistant. He stays by my side when I edit...doesn't talk too much...and thinks I'm a genius! Check him out here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQVkYaaPO6g
AndrewAction:the Fusion connect option (allows it to be used as an effect from the Avid Timeline with genuine background rendering and automatic timeline updating. (pricing and Availability of the connect Module has not yet (to my knowlege been confirmed)
Andrew, when the connect module is released--and if you try it out and are pleased with the performance and features--please bump this thread and let us know. Thanks!
No problem Terry.
The Module has been out for at least a couple of years at present and I believe works well with MC and DS. It was however expensive (relatively) when it was an Eyeon product (About $600 for the module but you also had have a $2500 pa approx version of Fusion installed)
After Black Magic brought Fusion there is a Free version (Like Resolve Lite) which would need to have he AVX 2 as an option (if BM offer this) or the $1000 (approx) full version when released that it is said will include the AVX2 option.
Going back to the original question - I was also a big fan of Boris and then relaised that the pricing structure was wholly unfair with resepct to Avid vs others - so have made the decision not to continue purchasing their product upgrades
I like BCC and will continue to use it inside MC8 - but if BCC8 stops working in future versions of Avid - I will likely revert back to an earlier version of MC and may then review my editing requirements -
There is Lightworks and Resolve from BM is starting to behave more like an editor - and I imagine that BM will want to bring in integration between Resolve and Fusion so as alternative products mature my requirements for Avid and BCC may reduce.

I never did read where they (BMD) say that the AVX2 plugin is included with the paid version of Fusion. Connect is available as a separate download from BMD. It doesn't apprear to come with any documentation, though.

Hello, I have the MC 8.3 "subscription" mode and I,m not aware of the BCC "Lite" for free or how to get it, BCC is not working anymore in my MC 8.3 subscription so would appreciate any advice on this subject.
Thank you, New Blue Titler Two and Squeeze "Lite" don't work in it either at least for me I had all the bells and whistles in previous versions at least thankfull that MC8.3 in itself works fine.
Thanks
Why are you running a subscription mode when you evidently owned a full license of MC previously? Do you really mean subscription or did you pay the $300 / year to allow for software upgrades?
I was under the impression that subscription mode ($600 / year - is that right?) also came with a few items such as NBTP and a light version of BCC but honestly, I really haven't looked too closely at the subscription offering from Avid.

I think it would be great for MC if Connection worked as seamlessly as Avid FX did. The demo's I first looked at showed it working better than FX with true full res background rendering (direct into your MXF folders with real time timeline updating.) MC's capabilities gained advance blending options, another CC option, 3D pan and zoom, script-able lower thirds and sub caps, superb Titling options ...... all with the flexibility of versions.
Like you I find it a shame that at present it does not seem to work as flawlessly as it used to and the lack of documentation makes it a time consuming voyage of discovery for anyone choosing to go down this path.
There are folks who claim to have Fusion (free) + Connect working 'seamlessly' in MC 8.3 (versions 7.7 of each) but I have not been able to make it work without manual intervension and I wonder if anyone on the BMD side of the fence is investigating this.

I guess the answer for this part of the "that is the question" has yet to be answered. I checked my 12-13-2011 online receipt for the upgrade to BCC8 and it was $295.00. The upgrade to BCC9 is $599.00. If there was a window of a lower price of $195.00-$295.00 I missed it. Actually I had no intention of purchasing another BBC upgrade. For the price of $599.00 it would have to have that "only this plugin" can do this as an effect! Actually show it used in a demo and say, "you have never seen this effect used before"! "We know that because we were the first to do it"! Something on the level of the effect used in Pleasantville. And yes that was more technique than a plugin, because soon after there were tuts in every app showing how to do it.
