You cannot "select right" all tracks with a single stroke. You have to ctrl + a first. Then select right. I was asking for a mod to "select right" that allows it to happen in one action.
1 extra step ?
Why don't you just make a macro using Keyboard Maestro or Quickeys or something similar...
Telegram!:To avoid getting out of sync in the first place, stop doing whatever manuever you are doing that causes it time after time.
I am not talking a whole track out of synch or being out synch all the time.
When cutting promos and trailesrs you have a lot of lyaers and once in a whle a clip is out of sync. It's not due to a mistake. It's just part of the workflow.
Having a quick way to fix this is necessary.

Because it's a fairly simple modification for Avid to make that would be appreciated by anyone coming to this application from FCP and it would be nice not to have to create a macro whenever you go to a different edit facility

OK, sorry. Do you ever use the m < > ? keys to do a Slip Trim on any clips across the timeline cursor on Active tracks? I use that sometimes if I don't need inter-active trim. Sometimes I will do a match frame folowed by Replace to achieve the same result. Neither accounts for a delayed or incomplete bit of underlying audio, though.

Thomas Vickers:You cannot "select right" all tracks with a single stroke.
.- You can lasso anything you want with a single lasso, without track selection.
Thomas Vickers:You have to ctrl + a first.
.- Yes, To use the "select right/left" tool.
But I guess that's too hard an cumbersome...
BTW, you can't select/deselect all tracks that way in Premiere. It's one mouse click for each track, yes, one by one (At least in CS6.5)
I can map video/audio tracks to my keyboard, so I can select/deselect any track(s) with a single keystroke. Premiere can't do that either.
You need the mouse. (Pretty sucky)
For each "disadvantage" Avid MC has, Premiere have five or more.
Did I mention Premiere's trimming sucks?
But the number one prize in "suckiness" hands down goes to the defunct FCP7.
Much improved in FCPX, believe it or not

Not anymore it doesn't. But the rest of what you said remains valid!

Hey Carlos,
If you edit 10 to 12 hours a day, and you use a function hundreds of times a day, don't you think it would make a difference if you only had to take one action instead of two to accomplish that function?
What if I'm working in the middle of an hour-long show and I don't feel like trying to lasso thirty minutes of clips?
Isn't this a forum for suggesting changes to the program?
Sorry, I forgot, Avid's perfect, Premiere sucks, and let's all spend a few pages speaking reverently about Avid's trimming function.
Thomas Vickers:If you edit 10 to 12 hours a day, and you use a function hundreds of times a day, don't you think it would make a difference if you only had to take one action instead of two to accomplish that function?
.- I edit for 8 to 12 hours every single day except weekends (Well, most weekends)
I usually work with six audio channels (Dialogues music & sound FX) and four video tracks. Sometimes more, but never less than that.
Lets pretend all my tracks are active (usually the case)
To deselect all tracks and select I.E. one video track I just need two steps: ctrl + shift + A (same time, one hand) to deselect and one (1) keystroke to select.
How many steps do you need in Premiere to do so?
I only need three keys to change trim direction (left, center, right). Or I can do it with the mouse.
To do a slip trim, one Lasso from left to rigth.
Or just select the clip you want to slip, put the cursor over it and move with "M, ?" (ten frames L/R) or <, > (one frame L/R)
Switch to slide trim, a right click on the mouse.
I can zoom in/out my sequence with two keys.
I can map almost ANY command/function, even with modifiers, to my keyboard or my workspace.
One keystroke to change to CC or FX mode (completely personalized with the tools and layout that suit my needs and preferences).
And the list goes on.
Can you do this with Premiere?
With Premiere, for every step you save in one function, you use quadruple (or more) in several others.
With Avid, for one extra step in a given function, it saves you several steps in many other functions.
That's why Avid is the tool of choice in production "sweatshops"
Thomas Vickers:Isn't this a forum for suggesting changes to the program?
If you suggest changes and how or why these changes will improve a (your) workflow people will be much more inclined to think about your workflow and (possibly) support your feature request.
Thomas if you choose to preface your comments with "every other NLE does" what you want etc... IMO you are more likely to get a forum user reaction like "so what" ... I have been achieving that result very quickly using x number of different workflows for years in Avid. And then not knowing your background and experience a forum user mightl suggest some Avid workflows that work for them for you to consider.
Thomas this leaves you the options to 1: Take or leave the suggestions as applicable to you. 2: Or get frustrated and start venting that everyone here thinks Avid is perfect. (nothing could be further from the truth.)
We are all users and most who frequent these forums do so to problem solve, learn and / or to help others.
AndrewAction:everyone here thinks Avid is perfect
.- No, Avid MC is not perfect
And, Yes, we all need improvements.
But to suggest something as imperfect, clumsy, and in dire need of improvements (I'm being benevolent) like Premiere is better (or is about to become the best) because it can do four or five things somewhat faster than Avid, is not a good start.

That's great. All I suggested here was a small change - allowing the user to hold down a modifier (opt or ctrl or shift) which would force "select right" or "select left" to automatically select all the tracks. The program doesn't allow for that right now and I felt it would be a big help for people making the switch from FCP. That's it.
I'll await my next lecture on how wonderful Avid is. I have been paying for the software since MC 5.0 by the way, but I could always use more convincing.
smrpix:Not anymore it doesn't. But the rest of what you said remains valid!
.- CS6.5 was still TOOL based.
If its still "tool" based in CC (which I suspect), not "modal", then, IMO, still sucks donkey.
Even the derised FCPX (which, BTW, doesn't suck as much as people thinks) is now "Modal".
Very Avid/Lightworks-like
They learned the lesson.

Honestly Thomas, if you use this function hundreds of times a day you might need to change your workflow and way of editing a bit.
At first I hated FCP, but I started to like it the minute I stopped demanding it should behave like an Avid. This took me a while. Editing on Avid is different than editing on FCP. Accept that and you will be less frustrated.
I too use 'select all right' in FCP quite a lot, but rarely on Avid. In a way this makes sense, since they are fundamentally different. Editing in FCP: mouse driven, dragging around clips in the timeline, extensive use of copy-paste, pulling the edge of a shot to extend/ripple it, all tracks always sync locked etc. Editing in Avid: keyboard driven, trim tool, cut/copy to source monitor, inserting filler, smart use of sync locks etc. Always use sync locks in Avid by the way, makes life a lot easier.
I'm not saying your suggestion isn't a good one. But there might be a more efficient way of editing on Avid than the one you're using right now.
