"Serious Error" with 7.0.3 on Mavericks

I recently upgraded to 7.0.3 from 6.5.4 on an early 2009 MacBook Pro 17" 2.66 GHz (5,2) running Mavericks. The first issue was a slow launch and really slow opening of projects (MC101 v6 media) that hangs on reading of project settings. Then it would crash with the error pictured below.

Other applications had been clunky, so I installed an SSD with a clean install of Mavericks and MC 7.0.3. Same deal, slow launch. No crash, until I had my projector connected, which I need to teach my class. It's held us up quite a bit. Any ideas on what I can do to get this working?

This thread explains why the Mac crashes with your projector connected:
