Buggy performance on 6.5.4.1 on Mavericks

Is anyone having a good experience running 6.5.4.1 on Mavericks? I had to upgrade my lab of 20 Early 2008 Mac Pros to Mavericks and was happy that MC 6.5 was patched for it. Unfortunately, I've had slow performance, freezes and crashes galore on most of the machines. It's been running fairly decently on my Early 2009 MacBook Pro though. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to make it run more smoothly while I wait to upgrade to version 7.

I would hazard a guess and say it's the age of the machines. 2008 MacPro (I have that one)...that's 6 years old, and you are trying to run a brand-spankin'-new OS on it.

Why are you running Mavericks on it? You don't need to...it's not a new machine. And Avid doesn't require Mavericks. I'd stick to compatible versions of OS and software. I have Mountain Lion running on mine, with 6.5.4. Very solid. But still slower than Mountain Lion on my 2012 MacBookPro and Avid MC 7.  Newer machien.

I'm afraid you're right. I have to run Mavericks because of other software that requires it. It's not an Avid exclusive lab. I'm in the process of requesting replacements of these machines. In the school system I'm in, there's no sure deal it'll happen at all, let alone soon. Thanks for the quick reply.
