    Tab Stop question

I've been watching Kevin McCaullife's tutorial on FX.

He talks about tab stops and his gui (He's on a mac, I'm on Windows) has a different display than I have.  I have v 6.4 BTW

I can't seem to set anything other than a right justified stop but he shows setting right, left, center and decimal stops using the control button.

He is using a beta version for the tutorial so that might explain it.

    Anyone have any guidance?

    Re: Tab Stop question

Tab stops were "broken" a few versions ago, but were fixed in AvidFX 6.3, and are still fixed in 6.4

The tutorial 12_09 on THIS PAGE show tab stops in reasonable depth.

    Geeked

Not at all - Any answers and help that I can give by words alone are answered that way, here on the forums. Also there are 200+ tutorials that I spent over 600 hours making that are availanle for free here. In addition I quite often make short tutorials that I post links to that answer specific questions that have been asked here on the forums and cannot be explained by words alone.

I know that you were asking with your tongue in your cheek - but I am sure that there are some who are reading these posts that thinks that I am crossing borders when I point to useful tutorials that cost a little.

Before I take the (admittedly, well priced) plunge, can you tell me if its even possible to make right/left/center/decimal tab stops on a PC as described in Kevin's tut?  Is that described in your tut?

    Re: Tab Stop question

I don't know about the decimal tabs, but the other three are possible.

I haven't seen Kevin's Tutorial, so I am not sure exactly how he tries to describe their use.

I do know that there are some shortcomings with tabs in Avid FX, and I have described workarounds for them in my tutorial.

    Over to you again . . . . .   Geeked . . . . .  I am off to my futon soon

    Re: Tab Stop question

    Hey Robert,

To be honest, I don't even remember doing it in my original tutorial, but here's how easy it is to do in the Windows version of Avid FX.  Simply add a new "Vector Text" layer to your project.  Once it's there, switch over to the text window, and type in some text.  Now, simply click along the top "ruler" to create whatever tab stops you want.  Once they are there simply hold alt on your keyboard, and single click on the newly created tab stops to alter them from L/C/R.  You'll notice that they change as you are clicking them.  Now you can head back to your text, tab through, and you should be good to go.  Hope this helps.

    Kevin,

Thank you for taking the time to weigh in!

Alt didn't work for me, but double clicking the stop seems to cycle it through left, center, right justified.  Not sure about the decimal setting.

One of these days I'll figure out the add image button works on this thing.   I did a screen grab of the three variations I saw.
