Hi everyone
We have transferred over to AVID from Final Cut six months ago. I would like to say the transition has been smooth but it really hasnt. We have had many many problems!
Anyway we have just upgraded composer to seven and our doco cams NXCAM will not link via ama. According to the website the AVCHD ama link is embedded in the avid composer software. It just says unable to link files.
Does anyone have any tips. Hope someone can help us.
I have read all the extensive info online - it is meant to be working.
Best
Nick
I run some tests with MC7 and files from a Sony NEX FS700 and a Sony NEX 7. The SD cards from both cameras were detected automaticly - MC AMA linked the clips.I've also moved the files (including the folder structure) to the hard drive and linke to the directory and didn't face any problem.Which camera did you use to create the clips?
Do you try to link to the file or to the directory?

Hi Nick,

Are you sure there's not an AMA plugin? As far as I know, only Quicktime works from the initial install of Media Composer, and all other plugins must be downloaded from the individual camera manufacturers.
Hope that helps.

Hi Guys
We shot the footage with the NX30, the little cameras. We tranferred rushes via content browser to the rushes hard drive. According to AVID the plug in is included. However I tried downloading the plug in and installing it and the installer cannot see AVID editor and through me out. Ouch!
Trying to bring the footage in via import is clunky and dangerous.... Would much prefer to use AMA

Are you sure you've got the right version of the plugin for whichever version of Media Composer you're using? I seem to recall a post recently that said the plugins haven't been released for MC7 yet, so if that's the version of MC you're using, that may be why it's not working.
You may be right there. Although the brochure says:
MC 6.5.3 or MC7.0 installer include with new AVCHD AMA plugin. So no more separate install it and it support AVCHD 60p/50p.
But it isnt working! I guess I will have to manually import the files and navigate through the clunky nxcam file structure....
I will keep my eye out on the forums- I was going to transcode anyway, as editing with the doco cam footage in the timeline is a bit, well not as smooth as it could be- combined with my old computer I think, and AVCHD is processor intensive! But getting teh footage into composer through Link AMA is much easier I find.
Seems you did upgrade - in which case trust you uninstalled the AMA plugin from version 6 as suggested in the readme before you did MC7 upgrade. AVCHD AMA plugin is definitely built into MC7 - and I have no problems AMA linking to NXCAM media - FX(HD): 1920 x 1080/60i (24 Mbps / 16:9) - but not sure about PS (HD): 1920 x 1080/60p (28 Mbps / 16:9) ! I took the precaution of uninstalling ALL AMA plugins before installing MC7 and plan to put back other non imbedded AMA Plugins only when they are MC7 certified.
Your attempt to separately install an AVCHD AMA plugin [although it failed] - may have cooked something. Not sure how you recover - maybe others can comment - but to me it seems you may have to uninstall MC7 - check that any AVCHD AMA plugins are also uninstalled - then reinstall MC7.
