Before color correcting video captured from tape or imported from files as one contigous clip, it is necessary to place cuts in the material that correspond with visual cuts in the Program. This tutorial By Igor Ridanovic of HDhead.com explains how to place such notches in Avid DS using an EDL.

It is important to note that there is a superior way to notch in DS, but it only works with material that is captured from video tape. It does not work with file based media. This method requires an EDL and the steps are as follows:

1. copy record timecode to source timecode in EDL Processor
2. assign the reel name given to the captured tape to all events in the EDL in EDL Processor
3. conform the modified EDL in DS
