I got some shots from a new hero 3. the clips have a resolution of 1920x1440 pixels. I can AMA link 'em, but they get squeezed. is there a way to maintain the corret aspect ratio?I don't want to have to use Sorenseon or Premiere or AE to convert the clips before being able to edit them...
best regards.

In your bin display the reformat column. Click on that item next to your clip and you will have several options. Stretch should be the one you want.
I'm also assuming that's a typo and you mean 1440x1080 which would be more common.
1920 X 1440 is a valid resolution for the Hero 3 and gives a 4:3 aspect ratio picture.
Why an earth anyone would use it to produce a non compliant HD image I have no idea.
So to use in MC you will have to treat it as 4:3 content and as you can't "window" the height you will lose resolution what ever you do.
Using the reformat option and letterbox/pillarbox may work but equally MC may not let you change "HD" content to be treated as 4:3 as it's not a valid spec.
The only other option is to consider using squeeze to crop the unwanted top and or bottom off to output a true 1920 X 1080 file in DNX and use that.

So it's now 2016, 1920 x 1440 is now the recommended 4:3 resolution for Go Pro4 shooting for Virtural Reality.
This is now a very common setup for VR and will remain so until it changes.
So far I don't think Avid is able to cope with this size, as everything is set to HD.
However Adobe Premier Pro is able to handle this footage and export to match original source size of 1920 x 1440
(please correct me if this is not the case).
Unless Avid supply a solution to the 1920x1440 setup, my recommendation to our company is to discontinue all Avid licences and start using Adobe Premier Pro.
Would an Avid adminstrator like to respond to this?
I'm not an Avid administrator, but current versions of MC (8.4 and later) allow you to create projects with custom canvas sizes, with a minimum size of 256×128, and a maximum size of 8192×8192. So to the best of my knowledge, you should be able to achieve what you want.
Oh thanks for that, we'll test it right now.
Let us know how you get on with Premiere if you go that route.
Steve
