For the first time in my life I have seen the following error message:
I have done what I think I should do to change the permissions. But it has not helped.
By the way, It is during the start up of MC that it suddenly aborts and shows the message. So now I cannot even boot MC for the time being.

Additional information
It happens as "Initialising AVX Effects" appears under the splash screen
Now I have solved the problem!
I had to change the shortcut properties, under Compatibility to Run this Programme as Administrator.
Never had to do that before.I guess that is called "progress"
Seems like you just learned to always run Avid as system administrator Douglas

So true, Tomas
But I have never had to think about that before with MC. The problem started directly after I updated to 6.5.2
Douglas,
Scares me to think this new MC 6.5 has pulled a fast one on you...you are the most knowledgable person I know when it comes to Avid...Happy Holidays my friend.
Cheers!
Hi Douglas, A Happy New Year to you from Edinburgh!!
I had the same problem as you when trying to run MC 6.5.2. Did you simply change the shortcut properties when logged on as a normal administrator or did you set up the hidden administrator account? I rolled back to 6.5 and haven't yet tried 6.5.2 again.
Thanks very much for all your excellent contributions to the forum - you are a true godsend to many.
Very best regards

Yes, In an educational system 60 workstations running at the adminstrator makes a lot of sense.
williamannau:Did you simply change the shortcut properties when logged on as a normal administrator or did you set up the hidden administrator account?
To be honest - I don't remember. However, as I don't know how to set up a hidden administrator account, I am guessing it must have been done as a normal administrator.
This was the first time in my Avid history that I have had this problem. So after I eventually got it fixed - I forgot how I did it. Hopefully the problem will not pop-up again when a new update or upgrade comes along. I have certainly not seen it requested here on the Forums as a "new feature"!

FWIW I have seen the problem several times with different parts of Adobe's CS4 (Encore in particular)
AndrewAction:I have still never seen this problem with Avid Douglas
If I may "speculate" for a moment, Andrew
I think that 99.999% of Avid users never have this problem.I have never had it until this install, so my immediate feeling was that something had changed with the installer. But that does not necessarily follow. It was just my first reaction to seeing this problem for the first time.
Now things are running again, I have almost already forgotten about the event
Hi Douglas,
Thanks for responding. The only reason I mentioned the hidden administrator account was that when I previously had to install some software on a Unity server I had to activate the hidden admin account otherwise it didn't work. It's activated via command prompt then just type in : net user administrator /active:yes.
There's always something new to learn. It makes life interesting.
Best Regards
Bill
