Hi friends,
Does anybody know where I can download templates like animated menus and supers etc.?
Final Cut seems to have a bunch of them, like a story book opening with your video playing in the pages... standard stuff.
For that matter, I'm also wondering where I can download effects like this: http://community.avid.com/forums/p/103628/598691.aspx#598691
I am willing to pay for templates or effects if they are easy and useful.
Thanks.

If you have MC 6.x.x, you will also have Avid FX.
In Avid FX there are hundreds of templates for effect/ lower thirds/ transitions etc. They are all FREE, as part of Avid FX
I am at present in the process of making a new video tutorial describing some of the workflows needed to get the most out of these effects. Check out my site for more information, or email me directly.
Here is a link to a short demo clip I made of a few of the effects that you can find in Avid FX

(I am not sure why, but for some reason this video takes almost 1 minute to start playing. Please be patient, if you are presented with a black screen at first!)

I'm actually on MC 5.5.1
Is there anything for me to use?
Or, is upgrading to MC 6 important. Where can I do so, and how much does it cost?

I am not really sure about the situation at present.
MC 5.5.x is a 32 bit application and would need a 32 bit version of Avid FX. There used to be a Productivity Pack sold that included the 32 bit version of Avid FX. But it is no more.
Boris RED (which is the essentially same as Avid FX) can be bought as a 32 bit version, I believe.
Upgrading to MC 6 would get you the 64 bit version of MC and the 64 bit version of Avid FX, but that does not mean I am suggesting that you do that. If you are contemplating an upgrade, be patient until you do so, and get Avid FX in the deal.
Contact BorisFX and ask them what they suggest, in the meantime.
Sorry I cannot give you more precise details on the best way to go.
IF I remember correctly, Avid FX was also included in MC 5.5.1.
Roger Van Duyn: IF I remember correctly, Avid FX was also included in MC 5.5.1.
Roger,
I am not going to disagree, as my memory isn't always reliable. But wasn't it bundled if you bought "the box" back then?
If you didn't buy the box, you could buy the Productivity pack later.
I think, that it started to be included with the download from MC 6 .
But . . . . . . . . . . . memory . . . . . .

I think that's correct. If the user hasn't got Avid FX already then the best option is to move up to V6 but that relys on the IO and hardware being suitable...

Thanks so much for your help.
I did purchase "The Box" almost 2 years ago, (or in software years, 75 years ago). I do have a disk in here called AvidFX Version 5.8.2.
I'm sure I did install it with the rest of the disks in the box.
How can I learn more about this, and find out if I do have access to templates and animations.
There is a update to 5.8.3 in the Download Centre.
If you have 5.8.2 installed you will see "Avid FX" listed in the Effect Palette in MC.
The 5.8.x version works with MC 5.5 and earlier (both are 32 bit)
When/if you upgrade to MC 6.x.x you will get version 6 of Avid FX along with the download (both are 64 bit)
The Boris FX site has hundreds of free tutorials on specific aspects of Avid FX (known as Boris RED, in its original clothing)I have loads of more basic tutorials. Ones for 5.8.x are found in the Avid PC Forums - near the top of the page, under Basic MC Tutorials 1 and 2.
I also have many newer ones (but they are not free) on my own site.
You can download a pdf with a list of what I have from HERE
Boris issued about 20 effects which work within Avid as a free sample. Search Boris Eye Scream free sample.
That is correct.
MC 5.5.3, Nitris DX, HP Z400, Win 7 Pro
Not quite animated menus and supers but have a look at these presets https://fxsyndrome.io
