I'm on MC 6.5 and I tried using the option key while clicking on 'mark clip'. It should ignore the track lights but it is not. That is, holding down the option key makes no difference. Is this a bug? or did they change something?
Thank you,
Brad
I am having the same issue. Option+T does not function properly. Anyone out there have a solution? This is a major part of my workflow.
Thanks.
Im having the same problem in 7.0.3. Anyone else?
Avid - can you please fix this. I've been on version 5.5.3 until resently so I have just noticed it now.
thanks Per

you are right.
With the Smart Tool enabled (or in Segment Mode) ALT+T doesn't work properly. With Smart Tool completely disabled it does work.

Yes, a bit frustrating to get used to, but it makes sense once you see how it works.
You can map the "ALT" modifier to the T on your keyboard, that way it always does what you're describing.

No, it doesn't work as expected either in Segment Mode or with Smart Tool enabled.
Glad I found this thread. Media Composer 8.4.2 still can not use opt/alt + t (Mark Clip) without Segemt Mode or Smart Tool disabled.
Does anyone know why this is? Is it a bug or a feature?
Regards,
Robert
Funny you resurrect this thread the day I noticed an inconsistent behavior of Mark Clip. As I wrote then, I always map ALT to the Mark Clip key on my keyboard.
I use the Segment Tools often to move sequences around the Timeline. Yesterday I was working with an assistant and I noticed that she would click on several clips and hit « Mark Clip », and it would put In and Out points on the selected clips regardless of the position of the blue playhead. I thought "that’s pretty handy, I forgot it does that". So I tried on my machine and realized it wouldn't do that. I removed the ALT option from the Mark Clip key and it did it. Logic would have it that Segment Mode selection has the priority over the playhead position, but clearly not. And maybe what I noticed is linked to what you’ve noticed.
Side rant:
Personally, I think the default implementation of Smart Tools is a poor copy of the FCP Timeline, made to please or attract those users and it was never done right. I'm old school and always work without Smart Tools engaged . Actually, the first thing I do when I create new User Settings is to go to Timeline Settings and tick "Clicking the TC Track or Ruler Disables Smart Tools, because that's how the Avid was thought through, and its logic is more clear when you use it that way.
End of rant. :)
Thanks for the reply, it is very interesting. I'd love to hear someone from Avid discuss the deeper logic and grammer of Media Composers interface tools versus shortcuts here or in a Tech Talk.
Understanding your shortcuts/interface options in any application totally opens you up to new ways of thinking, working and creating.
