Well, they must be compressed differently, or something. I get better, faster import times with my Canon DSLR than I do with my GoPro

Do you have any applications or utilities installed like Perian?

I have Perian, but it still imports/transcodes slow.

Thanks, tested it with my 6.5 MC and I got 6.5 seconds with both DNX145 and DNX220. Clip is 8 sec 3 frames.

I will try v6.03 a bit later or tomorrow.

Re: Avid 6.0.3 GO PRO AMA Transcoding Slowly

According to mediainfo the codec is actually AVC1 (Advanced Video Codec).

That might explain why Avid takes a bit longer importing.

it mounts and plays OK for me using AMA.

AVC1 is another name for H.264.

I would try a longer clip, more like 5 minutes. I feel that maybe more accurate in terms of getter a transcode ratio in comparison to real-time. Also I here that when doing file based AMA workflow, Avid is using the QT 7 encoding engine. I wonder if this is true, and if so, is that the reason it only transcodes at realtime speed.

Okay, so you see what I'm getting at. When ever I transcode volume based media I get faster than realtime, when I transcode file based media, I don't. I wonder if anyone knows why this is.

Non native Avid media will cause Avid to depend on external apps to decode, which often are not as agile as Avid.
