Hi Marianna,
I have both FCP 7 and MC 6 so I could either cross-grade or upgrade to Symphony. It seems like there would be an advantage cross-grading because then I could keep access to MC 6. One advantage I can think of is down the road if the upgrade price on a future MC7 is much lower than the upgrade price on a future Symphony. But maybe it would cause me problems to have Symphony 6 and MC 6 on my computer with two different system ID#s. Perhaps the files on the new symphony would over-write my MC 6. I'm currently working on a project at a studio using MC 6 (on a PC) and I want to be able to take the media and go back and forth to my system MC 6 (on a Mac). I suppose I would still be able to do that from Symphony to MC6. Thanks for your advice.
Raoul
Not a problem to have both installed simultaneously but it has no use, as Symph is 100% compatible with MC, SY just has some additional features. if you own MC6, you only gain the SY features. Makes more sense to use your FCP serial for a crossgrade. You can use one of your two Avid licenses on a laptop or extra machine or something.
Totally missed this post........ My apologies.
Job is spot on with his response and it makes more sense to crossgrade the FCP to Symphony and use your MC on another system or boot drive.
