Hello there,
I'm still looking for a inexpensive way to plug in a decent monitor and do proper color grading on our iMac. I now have the chance to buy a second hand SDI Mojo, would that work with the iMac (3.1 GHz Intel i5, 16GB DDR3, OS 10.6.8, with Firewire, USB and Thunderbolt slots)? What's the difference/advantage of a Matrox Mini device?
Thanks heaps!
MC 5.5, 3.1 GHz Intel i5, 16GB DDR3, OS 10.6.8, with Firewire, USB and Thunderbolt slots
Mojo SDI is not supported after MC5.5, and is SD-only.
Thanks so much!
One way to go is to get a mini display to HDMI adapter (for your Thunderbolt port) to hook up to an HD monitor. Then use Full Screen Playback.
Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812191221&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-NA-_-NA
Thanks, that looks like a good alternative. But do I need to switch to Lion for the Thunderbolt to work? I probably have to upgrade to MC6 as well, right? Thanks
The Thunderbolt port acts as a regular mini display port as well so the adapter doesn't need to be Thunderbolt. And, no, you don't need to upgrade to MC6 as well. I've read on the forums here that some people are having trouble using the Full Screen Playback option with MC6 which is one reason that I'm waiting to upgrade until they iron out all the kinks. You also don't need to upgrade to Lion but I can tell you that it does work in Lion on MC5.5.3.2.
I've been using this setup for about 2 years now and it works great. No need to buy an expensive box when you can already have full screen playback on a nice screen with a simple adapter. It's not for everybody but it works great for me.
