I have authored a Blu-ray with Avid DVD (6.38) and MC 4.5 using MetaSync (love it!) and going straight into Avid DVD with a QT reference file. All works perfectly (no third party programs used) until the very end of the (long) Volume Writing process. Just as the "Transcoding Audio" bar gets to 100%, the error message comes "failed to write because of an internal problem." There is no error code to look up, and no other information I can find on what went wrong. There is 2.57 GB remaining on the 25 GB disc capacity, and I have not customized any settings.
Any one out there have any suggestions? The long weekend I allotted to create these discs has now evaporated and deadlines crashing down.
Thanks for any help and Happy New Year!

Ah the joys of using Avid DVD.
I have it installed on half a dozen systems and make a point of having a rnage of versions active.
It's not uncomoon to have the software just throw up errors.
Sometimes I need to trash the session and try again. Sometimes I have top move to a different system and try again.
It's just not a very "robust" program. It's ok and works most of the time just fine. But when that deadline looms is when to decides to play up...

When that deadline looms... all programs act funny. the few times I was really late outputing masters.... Avid MC crashes.... but only then.... otherwise I never have any problems...
I did indeed start an entirely new session (and also re-installed.) It did create a DVD-dvi file though...just won't write or burn the volume.
Anybody know if I can take that DVI file to another burning program and output that way?
*BTW, the specs below are WAY out of date, and Avid doesn't seem to take my profile updates either. My current system is:
HPZ800 Workstation with Windows XP, SP3, x5650 @ 2.67 GHz, 2.66 GHx, 2.98 GB RAM, 2 x NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800, MC 4.5
Are you formatting the disc? That's the only thing that would bring .udf into the picture.Use a BLANK blank, directly out of hte package or off the spindle. You need to create a disc with the special set of files recognized as "DVD Video". If you format the disc (besides a lot of other problems that would cause), you are creating a special type of file known only to computers. (BTW - different programs use formatting that is incompatible with other programs, and sometimes different Versions of the SAME program)

"Why i can't redistribute my DVDs with a dvd ripping software ???"
No the DVI file is just the Sonic session file.
Can you bern an image or a volume?
If so you could use another app to burn that to a disc.
I did not format the disc....just took a blank from the package.
In answer to Pat's question about creating a volume, No, I am not able to do that. It just keeps crashing whether I ask it to "burn", "write volume", or "create image."
Meanwhile, I have purchased and downloaded TMPGEnch Authoring Works 4, and imported a BD file encoded by Sorensen.
Too bad Avid's own DVD authoring program is so lame...it would be great to have a seamless workflow from Avid MC to the DVD process. Especially since they provide those handy MetaSync tools for doing chapters, which of course are useless with any other DVD program.
One other thing to check.
In the preferences is the location of the temp folder/files the software will create while it re-encodes your (more than likely correct) content. That needs to have plenty of space to create the encodes!
Worth checking that and possibly deleting all you find in there in case anything has been left behind.
I am having the same problem with Avid DVD for Sonic 6.1.1
I can still burn a standard DVD, and I have burned Blu Rays in the past, but now when trying to burn a Bly Ray, the process goes through the whole transcoding video and audio, importing video, importing assets, then nothing. It won't burn and it doesn't give me an error message. When I try to save a Blu Ray disc image, it pretty much goes through the whole process, then tells me it has encountered an error (unspecified, of course) and needs to close.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, and have tried cleaning out any files from previous failed efforts.
I would be willing to buy Avid DVD by Sonic 6.4.4 if that would fix the problem, but I can't even find where I can buy it as a standalone without getting it as part of a whole new MC suite.
I am using MC 7.0.3
Any ideas, or, alternatively, can anyone suggest a more reliable Blu Ray authoring program?
Thanks,
Richard
So much trouble from a program that is by now EOL. To avoid these unwanted errors in the future, I have followed the suggestions from many of you to investigate TMPGEnc for encoding and finally TAW5 for creating DVD and BD.
It was for me an easy step with low learning curve by the splendid tutorials from my guru Douglas. These can be found here.

Thank you for those words of wisdom, Sef
I have no idea what is in store for us at NAB this year. But if there is nothing new for authoring from Avid, then I suggest that people should begin to follow Sef's advice. No need to take a giant leap. Start by getting the free trial version of TAW5 and test it while still wrestling with Avid DVD.
Not only is the parent of Avid DVD - Sonic DVDitProHD been EOL for a couple of years, now all support from Rovi (They acquired Sonic a while back) has ceased.

Thanks for the tip. I bought TAW5, and it works fine.
Also consider DVD Architect by Sony I have both programs and like them equally. Every once in a while you have to go to plan "B"...
Using MC 22.12. Win 22H2 Avid FX6.4, Vegas Pro 20/ DVD Architect 6pro, DVDit6.4proHD, CCE Basic, TmpGe Express4, TmpGe Authoring Works 4, DVDLab-Studio. Sony EX-1R, Canon XH-A1, GL2, GL1, Canon EOS 60D
Are you aware that Blurays (and DVDs) encoded and burned with TAW5 are not usable as masters for duplication? The statement is included on the last line or two of their features list, and it was confirmed to me by a customer service rep yesterday: "It is true, DVD-Video and Blu-ray (BDMV) authored with this application are not usable as a master for duplication." I came upon a discussion about it where some claim that the way to circumvent that is doing the actual burning in another program such as IMGburn, but I haven't had a chance yet to prove that that's the solution.
Thanks.

Avid DVD (DVDitPro HD) does claim to have this function - but how many have actually used it successfully without huge problems? Maybe Pat has some experience with this function in Avid DVD? (Although I guess he uses the Scenarist family for this)
Here are a few links to various threads that refer to the problems with DVDitProHD/Avid DVD and "glass mastering"They are not very recent threads - but then again, Avid DVD has been dead for the past 2 years.
