MC6; Problem with Pan and Zoom

I want to use the Pan and Zoom effect for zooming into a still picture, as I did often with MC 5. When I added the effect to a blank filler and clicked import image from the effect editor, no image is shown, what ever I do.

    What do I wrong?

Try to toggle between "target" and "source" while in effect mode.  Might work.

Just tried it on filler (V2) here Joachim and it works as expected here in a 1080 project.

Do you have the Sony XDCAM version 3  software installed? It causes problems for straight image imports so maybe with P&Z as well

Re: MC6; Problem with Pan and Zoom

I have the Sony Clip-Browser, XDCAM-Browser and XDCAM Viewer installed - no other Sony software. With MC 5.5.3.1 it has worked fine with the same Sony software istalled.

Is there anything to be set with Microsoft's Windows Imaging framework?

What image type are you trying it with?

A quick test here showed it worked with .jpg and .tif but not with 4 .psd image files. I also noticed in the Goodies folder there is a converter .pct and .pict to tiff

Re: MC6; Problem with Pan and Zoom

It is a .jpg photo of the size 3648 x 2736. I have already tested with smaller jpg-sizes with no luck.

I converted the jpg-file into tif and tested with this one - no luck too.

When I originally tried MC6 P&Z I remember that something frustrated me. Sorry I cannot recall the details at present.

Re: MC6; Problem with Pan and Zoom

I have installed MC 6 on a different test-machine (W7 Ultimate, other hardware) and get exactly the same result, i.e., when I place the Pan & Zoom effect on the placeholder, I do not see the jpg-photo after importing it from the effect manager.

On my working machine I looked into the console, when I apply the effect. A soon as I drop it to the placeholder segment, I get a mesage in the console: "Debug level -1 is invalid". Is this the normal message or is it caused by an error?

    Does anybody has an idea?

In an additional analysis, I found, that in MC 5.5 I can import photos with the related button from within the effect editor as often as I like (e.g. to replace the current photo with another one). In MC 6, linking is only possible once. Any new hit on the import image button does not open the window to select a photo. However, in the undo/redo list an additional entry is made: "Undo import image ..." , curios!

I use a filler with cuts for in and out and I apply there the Pan & Zoom.

From within the P&Z I link the file I need.

I don't have it on source but on the output.

Re: MC6; Problem with Pan and Zoom

I also had this problem but when I adjusted the zoom up from 1.0, the picture appeared.  There seem to be a few other bugs in the pan and zoom effect too.  When I hit the left and right arrow to move the zoom incrementally, it jumps but a full point instead of a tenth of a point.  Just today I tried to drop the effect onto a clip in the timeline and as soon as I grabbed the effect from the bin (I had saved the specific settings in a bin it gave me the "no" symbol.  Also, when I do a move that adjusts the X or Y positions a lot, it likes to move the picture in a weird curve instead of in a line.  Anyone know the fix to that or is that a bug too?

And I'm now pretty sure that the Avid Pan and Zoom Effect is what is causing these errors I've been getting this morning!  Not Cool!

You have to go to the effect start, select all keyframes and than - "Import image..." works (at least for me).

Re: MC6; Problem with Pan and Zoom

In another thread we discussed it further down and we found, it is a Windows issue.

    http://community.avid.com/forums/t/103935.aspx?PageIndex=3

If the disk which holds the picture file is set to be shared over a LAN within a workgroup, then the import picture process within the Avid P&Z does not work. As soon as the disk was "un-shared", all works fine. The curious thing is, that after resetting the disk share and setting it again, it rremains working fine (at least on my machine).
