Any easy way to keyboard map keys to move from on edit point to the next without triggering the trim mode?

I found it was a great way to navigate through a timeline in fcp.

Map the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons to your keyboard. I use A & S

Also, you can map "go to previous edit" and "go to next edit"

One of the first things I did when moving from FCP to Avid was to map the FF and Rewind keys to the up and down arrow like in FCP. Just be sure to pay attention to which tracks you have selected in the track header, since that affects which edits the cursor will move to.

Yes. use the fast forward and rewind keys to move from edit to edit (for active tracks). Also look at "composer" in settings window and click the FF/REW tab for additional options on those keys.

Wow - thanks guys. Didn't realize FF/REW was moving from edit to edit. I love the additional options of chosing to stop on Head/Head Frames, etc...

On Media Composer, Go To Prev/Next Edit always jumps into Trim mode.  However, it doesn't on Newscutter and formerly XpressPro/DV.

Yes, I don't like how it jumps into trim mode in Media Composer.  I wonder if there's any way to turn this off.

Thanks, man!  Mapping FF and REW to the up and down keys did the trick!

please wait: in the new 2019 MC my mouse turns to "Trim Mode" when i move over an edit. This wasnt before, how can i disable it? (i dont speak about the keyboard "A" "S" mapping...Thx

At the top left of the timeline window there is a row of buttons next to the audio meters. The third button is 'Trim Type'. Make sure it is off/gray.

Thank you for this answer but its not the solution...i was clicking in the timeline settings and got rid of this automatic...but i dont know how...was trying some to find out but cant get it back...:-D

If I'm understanding you correctly, when you press A or S to advance to the next cut it enters Trim mode. 

This is the default behavior in Media Composer. It has been for as long as I remember. If you have a look at your keyboard settings, you'll see that the A/S keys are mapped to "Go To Previous/Next Trim". In earlier versions of Media Composer, this was called "Go To Previous/Next Edit". 

But, you can remap the A/S keys to "Go To Previous/Next Event". You can find these on the Command Palette under the "Move" tab. In previous versions of Media Composer, this was called "RW/FF". The naming of these functions was changed to better indicate what they did. But, the end result is still the same.
