    Alexa Workflow

    Hello Guys,

Looking for some input on this workflow. All comments very welcome.

Camera is shooting ProRes 4444 Log C @ 24fps. Audio Mono Mix going to camera & 8 channel master audio delivered on DVD.

DIT will supply QuickTime Wrapped DNx36 with LUT applied and ALE file. (Can't do MXF wrapped).

    1. Project Settings - 1080p/24, RGB (Is RGB the correct option for this?)

    2. Import ALE

    3. Batch Import DNx36 QuickTime clips via ALE

    4. Sync & Sort

    5. Edit

    Online

    6. Force DNx36 Media offline

    7. Select Sequence and revel referances in bin

    8. Select offline master clips

    9. Batch Import (pointing to ProRes QuickTime files & import as DNx185x/Uncompressed 10bit)

    10. Grade & Output

Ideally I'd like to go AMA but editor prefers to work with LUT'ed footage.

    Many Thanks

No. The conversion with LUT will convert from 4x4 to Rec709.

    Re: Alexa Workflow

    Hi Job ter Burg,

Thanks for the quick reply. Would RGB be correct if AMAing the ProRes 4444 directly?

I'm curious how the DIT is applying the LUT. If Alexicc is being used, I have suggestions. It should be possible to provide MXF media at two resolutions with a LUT applied skiping the need for AMA.

Alexicc is not cheap but pretty amazing.

    Re: Alexa Workflow

Do the QT filenames match the clip names in the ALE? What are they using to create the files? Silverstack Pomfort? AlexiCC? DaVinci Resolve? I use Resolve to make native MXF dailies when needing to apply a LUT (be it Alexa or Canon 5D with Cinestyle LUT). But you need to purchase the MXF option to make native DNxHD ($495 from B&H).

DNxHD 36 is a REC 709 8 bit codec, so no need for RGB.

Does the ALE into which you are importing have filename in the TAPE field? Is it the full filename and not the truncated 8 character set? You can't relink (conform) between TAPE and SOURCE FILE (AMA or direct import) until the next version of MC.
